Understand your patterns. Work with your nervous system. Learn to respond differently.

Originally featured at Copenhagen Health Week 2026.

Why do we keep falling into the same reactions when we're stressed - overthinking, people-pleasing, pushing through, shutting down or feeling overwhelmed - even when we want to respond differently?

Many of our reactions to stress happen automatically. Our experiences, learned behaviours and repeated responses can shape how our brain and nervous system react to certain situations, sometimes keeping us stuck in familiar patterns.

But just because a response has become automatic doesn't mean it can't change.

Originally presented at Copenhagen Health Week 2026, REWIRE YOUR STRESS RESPONSE is now an extended two-hour workshop, giving you more time to understand your patterns, ask questions and experience practical ways to work with them.

Through an interactive talk, open discussion, guided movement, breathwork and somatic practices, you'll explore where stress responses come from, how neuroplasticity supports change and how working with both the mind and body can help you develop new ways of responding.

This isn't just a workshop about managing stress. It's about understanding why you react the way you do and learning how to begin changing those patterns.

Why Do We Keep Repeating the Same Stress Responses?

Have you ever noticed that you:

  • Overthink situations even when you know there's nothing to worry about?

  • Say yes when you really want to say no?

  • Push yourself to keep going even when you're exhausted?

  • Shut down or withdraw when things become overwhelming?

  • React emotionally and later wonder why you responded that way?

  • Understand your patterns intellectually but still struggle to change them?

Our stress responses are influenced by biology, past experiences, learned behaviours and our current environment.

Over time, certain reactions can become familiar and automatic, even when they're no longer helpful in the situations we face today.

The good news is that our brain and nervous system are capable of learning and adapting throughout life.

What the Workshop Looks Like

This two-hour experience combines nervous system education, interactive discussion and guided mind-body practices.

PART 1: UNDERSTAND YOUR STRESS RESPONSE

First Hour | Interactive Talk & Q&A

We'll explore where our automatic stress patterns come from, why they develop and how the brain and nervous system can learn new ways of responding.

Your questions are part of the workshop.

Before the session, you'll have the opportunity to submit questions about stress, nervous system regulation or patterns you've noticed in your own life.

Your questions will help shape the discussion, making the workshop relevant to the experiences and challenges of the people attending.

You'll also be welcome to ask questions during the session.

This is an opportunity to explore the science, challenge common misconceptions and better understand your own reactions in an open and supportive environment.

PART 2: EXPERIENCE & PRACTISE

Second Hour | Guided Mind-Body Exercises

Understanding your patterns is one thing. Learning how to work with them is another.

During the second hour, we'll move from theory into practice.

You'll be guided through a practical framework designed to help you recognise familiar stress responses, create space between a trigger and your reaction, and explore different ways of responding.

Through guided exercises, we'll explore:

  • Body awareness and recognising early signs of stress

  • Somatic grounding and orienting practices

  • Breathwork for nervous system regulation

  • Gentle movement and body-based exercises

  • Different approaches to working with activation and shutdown

  • How to pause and interrupt familiar reactions

  • Applying the framework to real-life stress situations

  • Reflection and integration

You'll have the opportunity to explore a familiar stress pattern and consider what a different response could look and feel like.

The goal is to practise creating more flexibility in how you respond to stressful situations.

What You'll Take Away

  • A deeper understanding of where your automatic stress responses come from

  • Insight into how your brain and nervous system learn and adapt

  • Greater awareness of your own emotional, behavioural and physical stress patterns

  • Practical mind-body exercises to support nervous system regulation

  • A framework for recognising, interrupting and practising different responses

  • Tools and ideas you can continue exploring in everyday life

  • A new perspective on stress
